THE UKRAINIAN WIND ENERGY ASSOCIATION (UWEA) is the largest nonprofit professional association in the field of renewable energy in Ukraine, which is the main platform for communication and cooperation for the large-scale implementation of wind energy technologies, BESS, and further promotion of the “green” transformation of the entire energy system of Ukraine and its post-war restoration based on renewable energy sources and sustainable development. The UWEA unites over 140 companies from 16 countries, including 100 % of wind electricity producers and investors in Ukraine. The UWEA is a full member of WindEurope and the World Wind Energy Association.
The UWEA’s mission is to strengthen the wind power market, technology, and infrastructure growth in Ukraine and worldwide through effective participation in the decision-making process, advocacy, communication, and education.The current dynamics confirm the stable development of the wind energy industry and its important role in the restoration and transformation of Ukraine's energy system.

JOIN UWEAThe winter of 2025-2026 was one of the most challenging in Ukraine’s history. Massive russian attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure caused prolonged power (more than 6-7 hours) and heating outages (somewhere by the end of the heating period), while repair crews worked under extreme winter conditions (more than -20°C), constant threats of renewed strikes, physical exhaustion, and shortages of critical equipment.
Despite these unprecedented challenges, Ukraine endured. More than 50,000 energy and heating specialists worked around the clock to restore damaged infrastructure, while the country increased electricity imports from Europe to record levels, helping to stabilize the power system and keep homes supplied with electricity and heat.
At the same time, the winter posed a major challenge for the economy. Businesses were forced to operate under prolonged power outages, adapt their production processes, and absorb significant additional costs.
Today, Ukraine is not only rebuilding what has been damaged but is also actively preparing for another difficult winter. The recovery of the energy sector is no longer focused solely on repairing destroyed infrastructure – it is also about building a more resilient, decentralized, and secure energy system. In this transformation, renewable energy sources – and wind energy in particular – play a pivotal role in rebuilding Ukraine’s power system, strengthening the country’s energy security, and increasing its resilience to future challenges.
The experience of last winter proved one thing above all: even under the harshest conditions, Ukraine can endure, recover, and build a stronger energy future based on modern, sustainable solutions.

russia’s massive attacks on energy infrastructure have fundamentally changed Ukraine’s approach to developing its energy system. As the country rebuilds a more decentralized and resilient power system, battery energy storage systems (BESS) are playing an increasingly important role in balancing generation, improving grid stability, and ensuring reliable electricity supply during periods of disruption.As of the end of 2025, the energy storage market in Ukraine is actively functioning. A key milestone in the commercialization of the sector was the long-term ancillary services auctions conducted by NPC Ukrenergo in August 2024. The year 2025 marked a transition from small private households to utility-scale projects. A total of 340 MW of energy storage system capacity was integrated into Ukraine’s power system. The strategic vision for the sector foresees growth of installed ESS capacity to 700 MW by 2027, and reaching 3-3.5 GW by 2030.
In 2025, by decision of the UWEA Board, the Association expanded its activities to include Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), aiming to foster synergy among producers, traders, energy storage operators, and investors. Committee members actively contribute to the development of legislative initiatives in the energy storage sector in close cooperation with the UWEA Legal Committee.
